"The Good _________________!"

It's those "special" dishes, the really "nice" sheets,
the big fluffy towels...

In my house growing up they were called the
"good" dishes or the "good" sheets or the "good" towels.

What that meant, in plain English, was they were
NOT to be touched or used. They weren't for us.

My mom would say they were for "company"-- we had
to save the "good ________" for when we had a guest
over to the house. Or a special occasion.

Meanwhile, we used the raggedy towels, sheets that
were a million years old and the same old dishes
every night of the week.

And it wasn't just in my house. Everyone I knew had
a stash of "good" something. It was just how things
were done.

How about in your house? Did you or do you have
a "good" something or other that was "off limits"?

I was on a 3 week trip this summer and my son, BJ,
decided to not come along. It was the last few
weeks before school started again and to BJ this
time is sacred. So he wanted to be home to spend it
with his friends.

Anyway, while I was away BJ ended up taking over
my room. (My dog Chumley is afraid of thunderstorms,
which we have most every summer night in FL--so
BJ "claims" he needed a much larger space to be
in with Chumley so he could watch out for him.)

The result was BJ moved himself into my room
and made himself right at home.

I'm naturally a very easy going person. I don't
let things bother me, I don't react and get upset--
I just go with the flow (usually).

But I must admit, I'm a bit of an "organization"
freak. I firmly believe in the mantra, "There's
a place for everything and everything in its place."

So the thought of BJ (who believes good
organization is having everything out on the
floor so he can see it at all times) taking over
my space didn't exactly give me those warm fuzzy
feelings.

When I returned home I walked into my room and
was surprised to find everything looked to be
"in order". I was impressed.

Then I walked into my bathroom and there it was.

The "GOOD TOWELS!"

BJ had gone and used ALL my "Good Towels"-- he
had even used my set of hand towels that were
there only for "decoration."

I pointed to my crumpled up hand towel and said,
"BJ why did you use my good towels?"

He turned and said, "I needed to dry my hands."

Then he picked up my good set of expensive
bath towels and said, "And why don't I have
any of these in my bathroom? These are some
"good" towels!"

The moment he said that, I just had to laugh.

BJ had broken the cycle of saving the "good"
stuff for guests (who rarely come) and reminded
me of who deserves the "good stuff" anyway.

Today, I use the "good stuff" for me--because
I'm worth it!

What about you?

The "good stuff" isn't just about towels or
dishes or a soft set of sheets.

The "good stuff" is about allowing yourself to
truly have the best in life. Accepting abundance
without limits and embracing every opportunity
to give yourself a "first class" life--instead
of those old raggedy towels.

In other words, don't reserve the "good stuff"
for another day, another person or another time.

Enjoy the moment... seize the day.... and for
goodness sakes-- use those good towels!
